Compaq plans to roll out a new extranet for the channel by fourth quarter, according to the company's newly-appointed director of Internet strategy, Moragh Blyth.
The plan is still in its infancy, but Blyth claims the extranet will improve communication with the channel and "automate a lot of the processes that are currently manual", like order placements and information about product configurations and stock availability.
Blyth said the extranet may also be extended directly to large customers but she insists it will not be at the exclusion of the channel. Instead, she claims the focus will be on building brand awareness and customer relationships.
Once the Compaq's post-merger channel strategy is finalised later this quarter (see ARN Daily, 16 July), Digital's site will be rolled into the new extranet. Blyth said key features of the Digital site likely to be maintained include its pricelist structure and configuration tools.
E-commerce functionality will also be built into the extranet by the end of the year, Blyth said.
