Channel partners and customers of Kyocera will now be able to use a new Printer Economy Check CD to assess the total cost of ownership (TCO) issues involved with the long-term use of network laser printers.
The Windows-based software tool was developed and published by Kyocera Electronics to compare costs per page based upon the specific needs and uses of customers. Amongst much more, it takes into account things such as toner usage, lifetime maintenance requirements and remote management capabilities on two nominated printers.
These are then applied with the user's own purchase and consumables prices as well as print consumption rates to a selected increment of time to give a lifetime cost comparison between the two products. Don't be surprised if it shows up in Kyocera's favour.
According to David Finn, managing director of Kyocera Australia, the object of the Printer Economy Check CD is to help users "identify the printer most suitable to their needs and to then accurately forecast the total costs that will be incurred over the lifetime of the printer".
He is sure that the figures will return in the favour of Kyocera and says that demonstrating TCO benefits allows resellers to retain margins because they have a strong benefit to sell other than just price.
"We've had this lead on TCO benefits for four years and we are now going hard with that message which has been hijacked by others in recent times," said Finn.
