Local assembler and long-time Seagate OEM customer ASI Solutions is reviewing its options on hard disk drive suppliers.
ASI Solutions director Maree Lowe told ARN that, despite having been an exclusive Seagate customer for seven years, it was time to look more closely at other vendors.
Included on the ASI shopping list are Fujitsu and Quantum, both of which Lowe describes as "very attractive".
Lowe said that Fujitsu has some very good products, while Quantum offered "competitive prices."
A spokesman from ASI's purchasing department said that, although Seagate has an advantage in its broad product range, the rapid turn-over in model numbers causes some confusion. He added that it was frustrating that Seagate offered no alignment between Australian and international pricing.
"The standard hard disk drive is now most likely to be more than 2GB, and this is where alternative suppliers have some appeal," the spokesperson said.
