Packard Bell gives desktops an 800MHz kickstart

Packard Bell, which is now the key brand of the consumer division of NEC Computers Australia (NECCA), has stolen a march on other vendors by shipping in about 300 units of its 800MHz Intel PIII model.

According to NECCA's consumer division marketing manager, Shlomo Binder, the 800MHz model is the top of the Packard Bell Platinum desktop range, and was delivered to most of the Harvey Norman outlets around Australia last week.

"It is the first 800MHz desktop available to the retail channel," Binder claimed. While Packard Bell desktops and multimedia systems are sold through a range of mass retailers, only Harvey Norman and a handful of Tandy stores have taken the latest speed offering.
