Ascend has made Victorian company Business Technologies a distributor for its remote access and central site products. Peter Pryor, general manager of Ascend in Australia and New Zealand, said the appointment would broaden Ascend's penetration into the marketplace.
"While a relatively new company, Business Technologies has considerable expertise in network computers and a very good understanding of the needs of the market."
Cardy Chung, managing director of Business Technologies, said he was very excited about Ascend's progressive development of voice-over-IP (VOIP) products.
Coincidentaly, Ascend Communications has enriched its VOIP offerings, with its introduction of software and hardware that can support a range of different services.
Version 7.0 of Ascend's True Access OS (TAOS) lets service providers mark voice traffic for high priority, support PCs and standard phones as clients, authenticate users by source phone number, and use scarce bandwidth more efficiently. TAOS runs Ascend's Max access concentrators.
The company also unveiled voice modules for its SA ATM access devices.
