Intel to stop production of 266MHz Pentium

Within months Intel will stop the production of the 266MHz version of the Pentium II processor, Intel's general manager for the Netherlands, Peter van Haendel confirmed recently.

"If the price of the 266 comes too close to that of the 300 variant, we'll cut the 266," said van Haendel.

The exact date for the cancellation has not yet been determined, but it will come before the year is out, according to van Haendel.

For standing orders the company will continue manufacturing the chip, using the new 0.25 micron process.
