Victorian retailers have a new "Fax Back" service available from the State Government's Office of Fair Trading and Business Affairs (OFTBA) delivering them information on their rights and responsibilities.
Designed for use by consumers and vendors, the OFTBA Fax Back sheets cover a wide range of topics, many of which are particularly relevant to computer retailers. As well as showing just what the fears are of consumers about various aspects of their contact with retail outlets, the service shows what the latest trends are for a wide range of prominent retail issues.
Fax Back sheets cover rights and responsibilities in most general areas of concern to retailers. These include shopping from home, lay-bys and refunds, product safety, pyramid selling schemes, Internet shopping, scams on the Internet, tenancy issues, the Fair Trading Act, the millennium bug, and buying electrical equipment.
Acting director of OFTBA Jane Reynolds said consumers and traders should be aware of their basic rights and responsibilities in order to avoid common pitfalls.
"Fax Back extends to a variety of areas of real concern on a daily basis. They have proven to be very useful by providing answers at the initial stage of many enquiries," Reynolds said.
Traders can obtain copies of the Fax Back sheets by calling the OFTBA on (03) 9627 6000, 1800 678 328 (from outside Melbourne), or through the normal mailing service.
