Philips lowers the LCD bar

Philips PC Peripherals (incorporating Philips monitor division) yesterday unveiled its newest price point and displayed what it claims is the first active TFT LCD flat screen 15.1in monitor with a recommended retail under $2000.

The Philips Brilliance 151AX carries a price tag of $1799, and according to product manager Paul Robson, "limited stocks are available now (although mostly pre-sold), with full supplies expected in early September."

Robson said that the entire Brilliance range of monitors is configured to support Windows 98, and is equipped with the USB bay at the back to accommodate the optional USB hub.

Like the rest of its monitor range, the LCD offerings include the four hour on-site replacement warranty plan, and the price point puts it within shouting distance of some 17in CRT monitors.
