Reseller finds Perfection in ERP win

A major new deal at Perfection Dairies is testimony to the crucial role resellers play in the IT decision-making processes of their clients.

Perfection Dairies - better known as "Perfection Milk" - is one of Australia's leading purveyors of milk and milk products, including flavoured and low fat milks, thickened and sour creams, custards, buttermilk and yoghurts.

The company has just yielded Baan another win in the small and medium enterprise space, following a similar deal at Alpen Products recently (ARN August 12, 1998, p1).

But the choice of ERP (enterprise resource planning) platform was driven as much by the advice of Perfection Milk's preferred reseller, as by the solution itself, according to Rob Davis, Perfection Milk's financial controller.

"The selection of Baan was based on the recommendation of IMB Business Systems, who had supplied our original MCBA finance and manufacturing software, and whose advice we have learned to value over many years," he said.

Perfection Milk has relied on IMB Business Systems for its IT requirements since May 1993 when the MCBA system was first implemented.

"As with most of our clients, we have tended to work with Perfection Milk as an external IT department, providing all of their hardware, software and peripheral needs," said Ian Buckley, IMB's manager of client services.

Digital Alpha platform

The Baan implementation will take place between November this year, and January 1999. The new system, which is being rolled out to 10 users, will be installed on a Digital Alpha hardware platform with MS SQL Server 6.5 and Windows NT 4.0, with the whole delivered by IMB as a turnkey lot.

"This is a classic process manufacturing environment where the Baan solution really scores," Buckley told ARN "Through several implementation phases, the system for Perfection Milk will manage the whole process; from the time the tankers pick up the raw product at source, through treatment, processing, packaging, distribution and the usual financial accounting and reporting requirements."
