Just in time for Christmas, multimedia products distributor Creative Pacific has added a very affordable 16MB 2D/3D graphics card, the 3D Blaster Banshee, to the line of graphics accelerators it sells locally.
Claiming a "price breakthrough" by tagging the Blaster Banshee at $349 (RRP), the card should be a popular upgrade for those want- ing enhanced 3D graphics and entertainment.
According to Creative Pacific's managing director Michael Wong, 3D Blaster Banshee combines both 3D graphics for quality games as well as enhanced 2D graphics on the one card.
"Having one card for both 2D and 3D graphic enhancement is a big win for the end user," Wong said. "Gamers these days are looking for the ultimate experience from their PCs. With 16MB of high speed SDRAM, 3D Blaster Banshee can support up to 19Ð21in monitors and still provide enough refresh rate to have top gaming.
"The Banshee's resolution can go up to 1920 x 1440 x 60Hz and even at that high resolution it is dead still. This flicker-free resolution on 2D and 3D graphics means users' eyes don't get tired from long sessions at the screen," Wong added.
Available in AGP and PCI configurations, 3D Blaster Banshee is bundled with colour calibration software packages from Sonnetech, which will allow for much higher colour resolution and better colour depth on the screen and in printing.
Wong is counting on Christmas being a good period for Creative as it has introduced some strong products at very attractive prices this year. He said retailers will find there is a lot of demand for multimedia upgrades this year, of which 3D Blaster Banshee will be one.
"We now have cutting edge sound cards, very affordable DVD and very affordable 3D graphics," he said. "We think 3D Blaster Banshee is going to be the best selling 3D card we have ever had. It incorporates the successful Voodoo 2 graphics engine along with a new 128-bit 2D engine and 16MB SDRAM.
