Memory leak in the SMTP Service of Windows NT 4.0

Microsoft has found a memory leak in the SMTP Service of Windows NT 4.0. Specifically, SRVINFO.EXE will continue opening the following key and never close it: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SMTPSVC\Performance. The memory drain will cause the computer to grow increasingly more sluggish, and ultimately may cause the entire system to crash. Microsoft will provide a fix for this problem in the next Windows NT service pack. However, if you don't have the patience to wait for the service pack, you can contact Microsoft Technical Support and ask for the file 08/19/98 01:46p 14,096 Smtpctrs.dll (x86) 08/19/98 03:55p 20,752 Smtpctrs.dll (Alpha).
