AMD announces two new mobile processors

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Monday announced two additions to its line of mobile processors, the Mobile Athlon 64 3400+ and the Mobile Athlon XP-M 2200+.

The Mobile Athlon 64 3400+ is based on AMD's AMD64 chip architecture and supports both 32-bit and 64-bit software. The chip also includes an antivirus function, called Enhanced Virus Protection, that is based on a feature included in Microsoft's upcoming Windows XP Service Pack 2, AMD said in a statement. The Mobile Athlon XP-M 2200+ is a low-power chip designed for use in thin and ultraportable laptops, it said.

The Mobile Athlon 64 3400+ and the Mobile Athlon XP-M 2200+ are currently available worldwide, AMD said. The chips are priced at US$432 and US$97, respectively, in 1,000-unit quantities.
