Despite having a growth rate of around 30 per cent a year, Sydney-based distributor of developer solutions, T Data, recently announced the amalgamation of its Adelaide and Sydney branches.
As the sole distributor of Pick Systems' database management solutions (DBMS), T Data explained its decision, citing the need to provide "a wider range of value-add services" to Pick Systems' DBMS customers by centralising its customer-service operation.
"Things have become more difficult for VARs as customers expect more and more from us," John Buchanan, director of T Data said.
"Ten years ago it was possible for one person to know almost all there is to know about Pick's database systems. But today, connectivity, storage and many other networking components are essential to any D3 installation, making it impossible for VARs to be experts in all areas. This is where our expertise comes into play."
Three out of five people who worked at T Data's Adelaide office have been transferred to Sydney and Buchanan expects to increase the number of Sydney employees further.
"At the moment, we are beefing up our technical capability, both from the perspective of staff numbers and training," Buchanan told ARN, adding that the company believes the move will help them improve service and support for its 500-plus customers.
