Deloitte/ICS has found a strange bedfellow to help develop a remote access solution for enterprise resource planning (ERP) software systems - Nokia.
At last week's Sapphire conference here, the two companies demonstrated a new product that utilises Nokia's 9110 Communicator's standard Web browser technology to allow organisations access to ERP solutions in real time.
Deloittes is providing the ERP expertise for the platform, according to Kim Scott of the company's ecomm/Internet service line.
This joint venture is designed to "move information from the desktop to the mobile environment, ultimately creating a comprehensive mobile office", said Janne Jormalainen, general manager, wireless data and technology, Nokia Mobile Phones Asia Pacific.
Jormalainen claims access to information from anywhere in the world is becoming necessary in an increasingly global and competitive economy.
Jormalainen maintains that the platform requires minimal hardware and software, and the Nokia 9110 is basically the entire package.
Thus it is simple to use and install as there are no mod- ifications or additional configurations required, officals said.
The system will be further developed to be more powerful when high bandwidth wireless networks hit Australian shores in the middle of next year, officials claim.
The Nokia 9110 Communicator includes a GSM phone, telefax, Internet and intranet, e-mail, short messaging service and calendar.
