HP cracks billion-dollar revenue mark

Hewlett-Packard yesterday announced it has maintained consistency in its annual growth by finishing the 1998 fiscal year with net revenues in excess of $1 billion.

The 56 per cent growth, which contributed to HP's 10 per cent global revenue increase to $US47.1 billion, reflects HP Australasia's strong performance in enterprise, commercial and SOHO markets.

Claiming the result is the best in HP's history, officials said both Australian and New Zealand divisions performed extremely well given the Asian economic crises.

According to Bruce Thompson, HP's managing director for Australasia: "the result is also evidence of the strength of the Australian economy where there is a strong growth IT spending," especially in the area of digital economy.
