A retailer has opened recently to sell high-availability solutions, load balancing replication, enterprise storage management, backup and recovery architecture and SANs. Its name, IG Online Store, reflects its Information Gateways parentage, and the latest online retailer springs from an enterprise-focused value-added reseller.
According to IG's managing director, Simon Maxwell, while high availability is strongly anchored to the enterprise-savvy channel, around 20 per cent of its existing customer base now simply requires a simple low-cost method of ordering and dispatching what he described as `components of sophisticated solutions'.
Among the key suppliers on IG Online are Logcaster, Diskeeper, Fenestrae, NTP Quotamanager and spartacom SAPS, not the sort of retail brands generally on the tip of the IT channel's tongue.
Maxwell said the launch of the online service was in part a result of the number of Web enquiries, `many from people simply browsing, and this allows them to go from browsing the window shopfront to coming into the store'.
The site was designed in-house using one of IG's own products, ShopFactory Pro version 4.1.
According to Maxwell, it's early days yet, but the site has already racked up retail sales of the sorts of enterprise products you might not normally see on the shelf at Harvey Norman.
