AIIA awards IT excellence gongs

Local developers were rewarded for their outstanding achievements recently at the Australian Information Industry Association's (AIIA) National Awards for Excellence awards held in Sydney.

Maxi Multimedia picked up the AIIA's "Best use of Internet Commerce" prize for its work with the Victorian Government to deliver all of its services online by the year 2001 via Maxi's new Web site (www.maxi.com.au).

The "Best use of IT with revenue up to $100 million" award was received by Adroit Operations, which developed a Lotus-based training solution that enables employees and trainees to access custom education and training curricula. It offers significant benefits for the delivery of training in remote and isolated areas.

Air Services Australia took out the major "Best use of IT with revenue over $100 million" award for the new TAAATS advanced air traffic system, which monitors and controls Australian air space.

In presenting the awards, AIIA chairman Alan Baxter said this year's nominations received an enthusiastic response from the industry and were of a very high standard.
