Aspect joins niche outsourcing venture

Aspect Computing is entering the fledgling business process outsourcing (BPO) market as part of a six million dollar joint venture with Citibank, Global Customer Solutions and Manpower Services.

Under the banner of Integrated Process Solutions (IPS), the four companies will provide a range of back-office outsourcing services to the corporate and insurance sectors.

Victor Penna, chief executive officer of IPS, said those services will be narrowly focused around a number of key processes, including purchase order processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset register maintenance, sales order taking and customer service.

Policy administration processing will also be available for clients in the insurance sector.

The services and infrastructure will be provided by IPS' own operation service centre, which is currently being developed. A decision on which hardware and software vendors IPS will choose for the centre is yet to be made, officials said.

Because of the niche focus of IPS' offerings, Penna claims the company is unlikely to seek partnerships with established service providers to build its profile.

Rather, IPS plans to leverage the sales teams of each of the joint venture partners and direct marketing programs to gain mindshare in its target customer base -- Australia's Top 500 companies.

"For the partners, IPS provides an opportunity to broaden revenues, create longer and more durable relationships with customers, and access new technologies," Penna claims. "It also enables IPS to meet the challenge of the major accounting and IT firms in business process outsourcing."
