Lucent Technologies last week announced it has acquired Pario Software, a startup developer of network security software for IP-based networks.
The specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed. However, according to Lucent officials, the vendor plans to integrate Pario's Pario Port Authority into the Radius Authentication Billing Manager distributed security system that is used in Lucent's PortMaster remote access concentrators.
Pario Port Authority, which is based on the Internet Engineering Task Force standard Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service protocol, or Radius protocol, is a Java-based security product that provides security server capabilities.
It supports features such as multiple platform support, advanced management capabilities, and simultaneous support of diverse client devices.
Officials stated that in a data network, distributed security capabilities enable communications servers to authenticate a dial-in user's identity through a central database, which stores all information about users, including passwords and access privileges.
