Oracle last week announced that its Australian channel partners will have access to a new Web-based e-commerce ordering system which is currently being rolled out in the US.
The system, dubbed Oracle Source, will let channel partners look up product information, place orders and check order status 24 hours a day.
Pascal Grant, Oracle's e-commerce manager, believes the Web-based ordering system will be adopted by most of Oracle's partners in the near future.
"Oracle Source will reduce our partners' operating costs by eliminating administrative steps and helping eliminate the need to carry inventory," Grant said.
The Web-based ordering system will consist of product search, templates, orders, track orders and user-profile modules. They will allow customers to query the system by keyword, part number, platform or product category and create templates for sets of products ordered on a regular basis.
When contacted by ARN last week, an Oracle spokesperson explained that the uptake of e-commerce in Australia has been notably slower than in the US. As a result, Oracle has been forced to delay any moves to bring the e-commerce ordering system to Australia.
