New Brocade SilkWorm Multiprotocol Router to be Available [RA1]for StorageTek Customers Worldwide

SYDNEY, Australia - September, 7, 2004 - No SAN is an island. Or at least, it doesn't have to be.

StorageTek® (Storage Technology Corporation, NYSE: STK), the leading provider of enterprise information lifecycle management, and Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade®) (Nasdaq: BRCD), the world's leading provider of storage infrastructure solutions, today announced availability of the Brocade® SilkWorm® Multiprotocol Router.

StorageTek customers in SAN environments can now benefit from enhanced resource utilization and seamless data movement across distributed SAN 'islands,' locally and across long distances, and over multiple protocols.

"A versatile storage network backbone is one of the most critical components for advancing a successful information lifecycle strategy across enterprise datacenters," said Philip Belcher, Managing Director for StorageTek Australia / New Zealand. "With the SilkWorm Multiprotocol Router, our customers can maximize the value of their distributed storage resources and achieve a more secure, flexible, and functional Inter-SAN foundation, cost-effectively and non-disruptively."

With the SilkWorm Multiprotocol Router, StorageTek customers can share storage resources in a SAN across multiple fabrics with minimal changes to the existing network design. The FC-FC routing and FCIP tunneling capabilities of the SilkWorm Multiprotocol Router enable StorageTek customers to implement information lifecycle management across the different SAN islands, departmental SANs, or global SANs interconnected by IP networks. The SilkWorm Multiprotocol Router enables customers to increase resource utilization, thereby minimizing requirements for primary storage in each fabric.

"Our switches and routers are tested and qualified by StorageTek to be compatible with their advanced enterprise storage solutions, enabling joint Brocade - StorageTek solutions to be quickly and easily deployed at customer sites worldwide," said Tom Buiocchi, Vice President of Marketing, Brocade. "Together with StorageTek, we continue to drive intelligence at the networking layer and deliver a more feature-rich storage environment highlighted by flexibility, availability, and security capabilities designed to support mission-critical SAN infrastructures."

In addition to offering the SilkWorm Mulitprotocol Router, StorageTek currently offers Brocade SilkWorm 3250, 3850, and 3900 Fabric Switches and SilkWorm 24000 and 12000 Directors to customers worldwide.
