GMT and Drake team to meet Y2K skills demand

With little more than 12 months until the millennium bug starts biting, Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is teaming with Drake to shore up the stocks of available staff equipped to deal with the problem. And GMT's reseller network is top of the list of candidates to be trained under the new program.

As part of a campaign to increase awareness of the millennium issue and counter the resulting demand for expertise in the field, Drake's IT Recruitment division is to provide training to resellers and industry IT specialists on GMT's Check 2000 suite of desktop PC software testing and assessment tools.

Check 2000

Via a range of seminars and courses, candidates will now have the opportunity to be trained and certified on Check 2000, according to officials from the two companies.

In conjunction with several leading Check 2000 resellers, Drake will also deliver a range of value-added services and packaged products in a bid to help organisations meet Y2K-compliance.

But Zoran Fistrovic, GMT's managing director for Asia Pacific, warns that for many of organi-sations, it may already be too late to avert all the risks associated with the millennium bug.

"A lot of organisations have already gone past their deadline for meeting total compliance," Fistrovic said. "For them, it's now a case of managing the risks, not avoiding them."

He said GMT's resellers will be vital in getting the Y2K message to smaller companies over the next year, and the joint training initiative with Drake will bolster the staffing resources available to them.

The first of the Drake training courses for Check 2000 is to commence in Melbourne this month.
