HP woos market with new all-in-one office machine

In an attempt to address the needs of the booming retail market that is small and home businesses, Hewlett- Packard has released the OfficeJet Series 710 all-in-one printer, scanner, copier and fax.

The comprehensive system sacrifices an element of quality for its neat packaging, which is unusually sleek by HP standards. However, according to HP's marketing development manager, Edmund Wong, the market it is targeted at will recognise that the space-saving advantages of its small footprint and all-in-one functionality compensate for this.

The system is designed to create improved workflow and, to that end, is linked to a simple software package via a PC. Amongst many other functions, this allows the scanner to be used to scan text and graphics and automati-cally add them to an e-mail as an attached file. Similarly, faxes can be a combination of hard copy material and PC-generated work, which is then faxed sequentially.

Wong claims this is the first colour fax made available in Australia. HP has attempted to determine future quality control of this standard with an initiative called the International Color Fax Standard.

Despite being designed as a stand-alone tool rather than one capable of being plugged into a network, the HP OfficeJet Series 710 has many of the standard features found in the four individual components.

These include a 20-page automatic document feeder, the ability to store up to 65 pages of fax memory and up to 100 speed dial numbers.

The product has a one-year express repair warranty that allows for the replacement of any faulty products in one day.
