And so ends another year. This is the last issue of Australian Reseller News for 1998, but we will be back bigger and better than ever next year. Watch out for our first issue of 1999, hitting your desk on January 20.
I've been in the editor's chair for seven months now and, quite frankly, I've had a ball.
I must say I've been fortunate to take over a title that is so well regarded by its readers.
In the last seven months I've spoken to countless resellers and integrators and I've been both astounded and gratified by the number who have said that "ARN is my bible".
That type of feedback is incredibly satisfying to everyone who works on this paper. It's why we're here.
Of most satisfaction to me, however, has been how the channel community has come to interact with this newspaper.
It is the aim of every single person at ARN to ensure that we are the voice of the channel.
There are enough end-user newspapers and magazines on the street that are more than happy to put the boot in if a dealer, reseller or integrator makes a mistake. Well, we're here to look after your interests.
That's something the channel obviously appreciates. While all of us journalists think we're pretty crash-hot investigators, our job is being made a lot easier because resellers and integrators are coming to us when somebody screws them over or does the wrong thing.
Thankfully, because ARN is firmly established as Australia's premiere channel publication, we generally have the clout to make sure issues get resolved pretty quickly.
Drop us a line
Once again, I encourage you to drop myself, or anyone on the team, an e-mail or phone call at any time. Many editors like to think it is their job to drive the direction of their title. I consider it my job to listen and talk to the channel closely enough so that it's you who drives the direction of this paper.
The biggest change we have made at ARN this year is to split up the front of the paper into communities of interest. Whether you are in the business of retailing, assembly, integration or whatever, there should be at least one section in the paper each week with information specific to your needs.
Next year, we aim to develop these communities even further. For example, this month we launched the first issue of ARN Integrator, a magazine dedicated to that part of the channel focused on building services revenue be it through integration and services, development or assembly.
So as we put to bed the last issue of this year, we're already focusing on how we're going to make the paper better next year. But in the mean time most of us are going to take a bit of a break - as I hope many of you are. So on behalf of all the crew at ARN, I would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. And we'll see you again, January 20.
