Keycorp Smartcard Solution Wins Multimillion Dollar Contract

Following a preliminary agreement in October last year, e-commerce and smartcard developer Keycorp Limited has signed a multimillion dollar contract to supply NSW gaming company TAB with gaming machine interface cards (GMICs) for its state-wide TABLink system.

The contract obliges Keycorp to design, manufacture and deliver an undisclosed amount of the interface units which will be used to deliver gaming data to TAB's central monitoring system in Ultimo from machines across the state.

Based on Keycorp's proprietary smart card operating system OSSCA, GMICs will use secure access modules to provide a secure interface by encrypting information transmitted across the TABLink network.

Keycorp's managing director John Wood said he was pleased the contract has been finalised.

"Our research and development group is [now] fully focused on delivering this product on schedule and assisting TAB implement this major network," Wood said.

The company is expected to ship the first GMICs in the second quarter of 1999, with the remainder being delivered over the next three years.
