In a deal in excess of one million dollars network developer Novell Australia is to implement a solution for Telstra that will manage the telecommunication giant's 55 000 desktop and mobile PC's.
Based on Novell's Z.E.N works 1.1 technology, the features that most attracted Telstra were the systems versatility in managing disparate operating systems, a high priority due to Telstra's plans to upgrade from Windows 3.1 to Windows NT in the near future.
According to Novell's managing director in Australian this is made possible through "Z.E.N. works 1.1 which provides remote control and application launch capabilities, through Novell's directory-based management features."
The desktop management design includes support for other Novell products including Netware and Novell Directory Services. Bundled with the package is Check 2000, a year 2000 assessment tool that recognises year 2000 compliance problems and remedies them.
