Jumbomall delivers e-commerce option for all

Online megastore Jumbomall has proved electronic mall shopping can be a successful venture for service providers and dealers by coming fifth in the latest listing of Australian electronic retail sites.

Up against competition from the likes of Coles-Myer, Brian Wade, a Jumbomall reseller and shop owner, believes that Jumbomall is becoming a more viable option for most businesses. He said it especially suits small-to-medium organisations that have neither the time or money to set up and maintain an individual e-commerce site.

Jumbomall is a free Web-based store-building service supporting e-commerce with full security.

An Australian initiative, it is designed to give all businesses a chance to trade on the Web, regardless of their size.

The way of the future

Wade agrees with the often-touted vision that e-commerce is the way of the future, and asserts that the electronic mall concept offers Web trading solutions to businesses of all types and sizes.

"Jumbomall is directly parallel to the development of physical shops because a mall is significantly cheaper and more convenient for shoppers than single shops," Wade said.

Featured on the Austrade stand at Comdex in Las Vegas recently, Jumbomall relies heavily on such exposure to recruit new online traders and to increase end-user awareness of the site.

"The benefit of Jumbomall is that each shop can rely on the name of Jumbomall to attract a regular client base," Wade said. "In November alone the site had 46,000 hits."

Jumbomall draws in buyers and sellers using a marketing strategy that relies on mailouts. More recently, banner advertising with ISPs and popular search engines have also helped to direct Web surfers to the electronic shopping mall.

It also has three tiers of access designed to attract smaller businesses wishing to trade.

Wade explains that the first level is free and provides an opportunity for shop owners wanting to test the e-commerce waters.

The second "professional" level is more comprehensive in terms of providing advertisements, while the third distribution level offers a money collection service for companies without access to electronic banking.

As a reseller, Wade is responsible for selling time, connections and Web page design to stores interested in the concept. He is also involved in selling advertising space to big businesses who recognise the potential of Jumbomall to provide an audience.
