South Mark continues to dominate tertiary market

Melbourne systems integrators, South Mark Solutions has continued to dominate the educational networking market with a contract to install Australia's first tertiary Gigabit Ethernet backbone at The Box Hill Institute.

Utilising its previous relationship as Box Hill's preferred partner, South Mark gained the contract last year and is close to completing the installation of the Cisco switches and routers for over 1000 desktops.

This is an ongoing project for the Box Hill campus and South Mark is hoping to capitalise on the relative lack of competition in this market. According to Shoei Mak, South Mark's team leader, the specialised focus that the company shows for the educational market has forged this exclusive position for them. "We have a dedicated education team and our resources are focused on higher education," claims Shoei, who believes that South Mark's long-term relationships with a number of universities around the country puts it in a prime position to take on numerous contracts similar to the Box Hill operation.

This contract alone has the potential to expand into six more campuses as Box Hill realises its goal of implementing what Box Hill's general manager of information technology, Richard Constantine, describes as a "virtual campus", made possible by a network comprising of Cisco's 5500 chassis series and its catalyst routers.
