In an effort to dominate the backup market for NetWare products, Seagate Software has partnered with Novell and Oracle to enhance its database protection software Seagate Backup Exec.
The result is a new Seagate Backup Exec Agent for the Oracle database for NetWare designed to improve its NetWare storage capabilities and extend its database support.
"As the number of mission-critical network servers grow, our goal is to provide storage-management solutions that extend the enterprise capabilities of Seagate Software's NetWare products by providing complete data availability," said Andrew Antal, regional marketing manager, Seagate Software.
The new Agent version 1.0 enables users to back up and restore both individual table spaces and the complete Oracle database, including log files and control files.
Brett Hannath, database server product sales and marketing manager, Oracle Australasia, claims the Agent "provides true NetWare enterprise data protection by integrating Oracle backups within the Seagate Backup Exec routine for total network backup integration".
The partnership will see information about the Agent for the Oracle database, including a Web link to download a copy of the agent, contained on the Oracle CD inside the Novell NetWare 4.2 and NetWare 5.0 boxes.
"Seagate Backup Exec and the Agent for the Oracle database seamlessly work with NetWare to provide customers with a reliable data-protection solution," said Lembit Pikkat, Novell market development manager Australasia.
Valued at $1120, version 1.0 of the Agent for the Oracle database will be available free of charge for users of version 8.0 of Seagate Backup Exec for NetWare, Novell NetWare 4.2, Novell NetWare 5.0, Oracle7.3 and Oracle8 for a limited time beginning in January (Internet fees may apply).
