3M brings partners and clients nearer

Your global partners and clients may be nearer than you expect, with a new addition of the VCS3100-Multi Point (MP) to Videoconferencing Systems VCS 3000 Series by 3M Australia.

"Now there is no need to pre-book and pay for third-party bridging services or information technology support," proclaimed Peter Strohkorb, 3M Australia's business development manager for Advanced Meeting Solutions.

VCS3100-MP enables users to connect with up to three different remote locations, on demand and without a costly separate multipoint control unit (MCU), thus "helping businesses become much more spontaneous and flexible with their remote meetings".

The new system offers a choice of continuous presence videoconferencing with all participants appearing simultaneously on the screen, or voice activated switching so only the person currently speaking remains visible. Additionally, enclosed Release 4.0 software upgrade includes Call Recovery System (CRS) to automatically reconnect all meeting participants, should an ISDN line fail during a call.

Democratically minded, VCS3000-MP offers standards compliance allowing it to connect it to non-3M videoconference units. Such generosity makes the usual video quality combined with FM-standard audio offered by the 3M communication products more widely available. Three- and four-way connections transmit at 15 frames per second and 256Kbps and 128Kbps respectively, whereas point-to-point connections allow flashy 30 frames per second and both 384 and 512Kbps.

Additionally, with a less than $30,000 RRP price tag, the new VCS3100-MP makes the technology, previously available only to multinational corporations, obtainable by small and medium-sized enterprises.
