3Com has announced a new Universal Serial Bus (USB) Network Interface that allows users to easily connect USB-equipped desktops and laptops to 10Base-T Ethernet networks without having to open their PCs, as well as a Web-based suite of management applications for network administrators.
The new 3Com USB Network Interface, targeted at homes and small offices/home offices, is designed for PCs running Windows 98. It plugs directly into the USB port on PCs and laptops and provides an immediate connection to an Ethernet local area network.
Connecting PCs via Ethernet allows users to drag and drop files between computers, share printers and Internet access, send and receive e-mail and access a CD-ROM or back-up drive attached to another PC, 3Com said in a statement.
Driver installation with the USB Network Interface takes a few minutes using the packaged software utility and LEDs on its adapter indicate network and traffic status for troubleshooting, the company said.
