Acer Computer has announced three new server models, designed to extend its range to the high-end departmental computing market.
The systems incorporate Intel's 100MHz front-side bus chipset, which allows up to dual 450MHz Pentium II processing.
The new models -- the Acer Altos 9100B, 1100 and 500 -- mean resellers now have a complete range of server offerings at highly competitive price-for-performance points, according to Bert Noah, Acer's server and networking product manager.
The 1100 server series and uni-processor 500 server series are distributed through Acer's PC channel, while the high-end 9100B, featuring the Intel BX chip set, is only available through Altos certified resellers.
"While offering servers at competitive prices, our resellers are in a good position to retain healthy margins in a market where, like personal computers, they are being eroded," Noah said.
Chris Cunningham, sales manager for Perth-based system integrator and AAA Acer reseller Thames Group, confirmed Noah's margin claim, especially on the high-end servers, adding: "The Acer servers have been sticking it to the other brands in price and performance."
