HP announces ChaiAppliance Plug and Play

HP announces ChaiAppliance Plug and PlaySAN MATEO - Hewlett-Packard has taken another step toward its self-stated goal of making appliance connectivity transparent, announcing last week an expansion of its Chai line of embedded software products with ChaiAppliance Plug and Play.

ChaiAppliance is written in Java and based on open Web standards, providing developers of Java-based appliances with Universal Plug and Play compatibility, according to HP officials.

The software supports device and application discovery using Web standards such as HTTP and Extensible Markup Language, allowing each device or application service to have its own Web page. According to HP, this allows developers and users to access and control embedded devices through a standard Web browser.
