Hewlett-Packard announced a plethora of new products for its HP OpenView enterprise-management software at the HP OpenView Forum & Universe Conference held in the US last week.
According to HP officials, the OpenView product line of integrated management tools for applications, systems, networks, software, desktops, security, storage and IT services is undergoing a period of fundamental change that requires customers to think differently.
"IT used to support business; now it is the business," said Ann Livermore, president and CEO of HP's Enterprise Computing Solutions organisation.
The essence of tomorrow's electronic services is using the computer as a utility, Livermore said. "It's beginning to be real," she said. "It's the logical evolution of the Net to be a service or resource that conducts a transaction, completes a task or solves a problem."
Livermore also mentioned new software - code-named "Fremont" - for the creation, mediation and accessing of Internet-based services. It will be announced later this quarter.
Other announcements made included:
The addition of four new products to HP's OpenView Application Quality of Service initiative that promote user-based pricing models and improvements in application deployment. Response Time Workbench helps monitor application response time and availability as measured from a customer's perspective.
THP OpenView Manager for SAP R/3, meanwhile, helps manage SAP R/3 applications, databases, servers, desktops and networks in Unix and Windows NT environments. There's also a new HP OpenView SMART Plug-In for SAP R/3, as well as new ones for PeopleSoft, BEA Tuxedo and Internet servers.
TFinally, the HP OpenView GlancePlus Pak 2000 offers performance and availability management of processes and events on HP-UX servers.
