Management applications developer Sterling Software has announced a joint agreement with Hewlett-Packard for the vendor to resell two of Sterling's operating system management offerings.
The products -- SOLVE: Operations for IT/Operations and SOLVE: Operations for Open View -- are designed to extend the capabilities of HP's Open View IT/Operations and Open View Network Node Manager to include the S/390 and AS/400, sources said in a statement released by Sterling. Effectively, this provides a combined view of all S/390 plug-compatible operating systems, including VOS3, MSP, SNA, TCP/IP, CICS, Connect:Direct, FTP and AS/400, onto one management platform.
"Now we can offer our customers a single point of control for critical systems availability management -- from the desktop to the S/390," says Randall Davis, president of Sterling's network management division.
"The Sterling Software and HP alliance allows customers to fully leverage their existing investment in Open View and OS/390 and AS/400 management products," claims Oliver Helleboid, general manager of HP's Open View software business unit. "Our joint solution enables IT organisations to rapidly and successfully deliver enterprise service management to their customers at a lower overall cost."
