The second Bananas in Pyjamas title, It's Party Time, was launched at the recent Interact PCIT 98 exhibition in Melbourne, and forgetting the cute factor, PC retailers can get ready for what is expected to be another sales success in the run-up to Christmas.
According to Dataworks national sales and marketing manager, Brad O'Brien, though, the sale or return policy to the majors has been tightened, which means the small retailers can expect a fairer shake at the title.
O'Brien sells directly to the major retailers, and has commissioned agents selling to what he describes as the independents, including PC retailers. These commissioned agents are responsible for gaining shelf space and point-of-sale exposure. He said that, including the majors, Dataworks has around 3500 registered retailers on its books, and there is room for more.
At an RRP of $49.95, there is a 30 per cent margin and, between now and Christmas, Dataworks expects to sell 15,000 copies. For independent retailers, though, it is likely to be a strong store traffic generator, with a better than average margin.
The first title, It's Fun Time, has sold 150,000 copies in 14 countries, and recently won the Judges Gold Award for "Best of the Best" at the Australian Interactive Multimedia Industry Association awards.
