Reseller Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications is on the cusp of ramping up its data service offerings, announcing last week at Now99 a strategic partnership with Lucent Technologies to provide complete communication solutions.
David Tudehope, Macquarie's chief executive officer, said the partnership supports the company's drive to become a "total solutions provider" by offering corporate Australia access to managed data solutions, from network design to the selection of carrier data products, hardware installation and network management.
"We saw there was a big hole in the data market. There are a lot of options in voice but data is still relatively untouched," Tudehope said of Macquarie's move into the data space.
"Macquarie's partner program developed from the fact that we provide total solutions to corporate customers. But we also recognise that no one company can offer total solutions and provide best-of-breed options at the same time," Tudehope added.
To this end, Macquarie offers Telstra and Optus data products, and according to Tudehope, "partners with market leaders such as Lucent for hardware and equipment".
Lucent is Macquarie's first Strategic Partner, which Tudehope explained is the most significant level of alliance offered to Macquarie partners.
"We will develop solutions together that are unique. We bid for contracts together and we recommend Lucent to our clients."
At present Tudehope claims Lucent and Macquarie are attempting to counter the tradit-ional complaint that telecommunications carriers interrupt end-to-end network management. "Lucent offers managed router solutions.
"The problem with this has always been that the best solution is end-to-end management but there is not much visibility of a carrier's network in any solution. Put together Macquarie and Lucent and you have a totally transparent network," Tudehope claimed.
