Network integrator CSC Australia has won a slice of the Defence Department's $4.9 million contract to install its Geographic Area Network (GAN) in the Top End.
Spanning 29 locations, ranging from Broome to Tennant Creek to Alice Springs, Project Northern Exposure will be completed by July this year.
Andrew Lockley, CSC's project manager, claims the GAN will allow the Defence force to securely transmit information, provide e-mail services and Internet connectivity.
The project is being undertaken by CSC as the prime contractor and regional partners including Computer Support and Maintenance.
Defence force sources are predicting that on completion of the project local industry will be able to bid for ongoing support work valued at up to $1 million a year.
