Optus rolls out data, voice offerings

Cable and Wireless Optus now looks a much more imposing data comms competitor to Telstra with the launch of four new offerings for businesses, three for data and one for voice.

The three data services are ATM (asynchronous transfer mode), Managed Private Line and Secure Dial. The fourth service is called Global Intelligent Virtual Network and caters for corporations' voice needs.

The ATM offering will be pitched as a solution that will enable customers to integrate voice, video and data over a high-speed service.

"It is a cost-effective means of supporting high-speed multimedia applications such as desktop videoconferencing," said John Filmer, director of enterprise for Cable and Wireless Optus.

Managed Private Line is an outsourced data communication line which sees Cable and Wireless Optus take care of equipment installation and end-to-end network management, while Secure Dial is a virtual private network service enabling users to dial up to corporate resources from anywhere in the world.

Global Intelligent Virtual Network (GIVN) will be rolled out later this year and provides a solution for multinationals to link their sites around the world without the fixed costs and complexities of a private network.

"It offers a range of billing, service management and reporting options which can be tailored to meet the customer's business requirements and organisational structure," Filmer said.
