Citrix enters terminal vendor partnership

Citrix Systems yesterday announced a partnership with terminal manufacturers to deliver basic levels of server-based computing capabilities to small businesses.

Under the deal, 12 Citrix ICA OEMs such as IBM, IGEL, Keytronics, Neoware and Wyse Technology will license Citrix Device Services for their Windows-based terminal and network computers.

Small businesses deploying stand-alone Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition systems with Windows-based terminals, and network computers will gain "transparent access" to local printers and COM ports for peripherals, such as point-of-sale scanners, through licensed Citrix ICA OEM terminals.

The company reports Device Services will also deliver greater application performance and improve network efficiency through the use of Citrix's Independent Computing Architecture.
