Veritas promises reseller profits

Following its recent acquisition of Seagate Software's Network and Storage Management Group (NSMG), Veritas Software is in the process of combining the two businesses' vendor and OEM strategic partners, with resellers set to capitalise on wider product offerings.

Veritas now boasts an expanded partner roster of more than 85 vendors from high-end UNIX and Windows NT vendors to device-level vendors.

Based on Seagate NSMG's previous relationships, the acquisition now positions Veritas strongly with Microsoft and Novell, with the standardisation of partnerships across the one company facilitating Veritas' UNIX and NT solution offerings.

"The merger with Seagate's NSMG enables us to expand our storage management solutions to further bridge UNIX and Windows NT environments," said Peter Levine, senior vice president, strategic operations at Veritas.

"We see it as an exciting time for our reseller partners," said Joe Peters, Veritas' regional sales manager. "The product expansion is quite considerable."

Peters claims this process will start with resellers offering plug-and-play level products from Veritas, or previously Seagate, depending on what the reseller doesn't have expertise in.

Through training and certification these offerings will be able to be stepped up over time through to high-end enterprise solutions, he said.

Wary of teething problems and potential lay-offs, Peters claims this acquisition signals the opposite, with the company to grow combined Veritas and Seagate staff numbers from the current 29 to 40 by the end of the year.
