Nortel Networks last week detailed a raft of new products as part of its IP Telephony strategy, while committing to a strong channel push into the next millennium.
Steve Rust, Nortel's enterprise solutions managing director, said the company is determined to keep pushing its IP solutions through the channel.
"We're committed to the leveraged model across the whole portfolio," he said.
Included in the announcement is the new "Inca" (Internet Communications Architecture) Internet telephony port-folio, based on the Accelar routing switch.
The products include the Inca M10 and M1 Communications Systems for high-end telephony applications.
Other products launched last week are the i2004 Internet telephone, the Inca Telecommuter - Windows-based PC software to integrate voice and data over IP - and upgrades to the Meridian, Passport, Symposium and BayRS line of products.
Rust said the majority of the new products and enhancements will not be available in Australia until early 2000.
In the meantime, resellers, users and Nortel staff are undergoing integrated voice and data training courses under the Certified Network Architect Program.
Nortel's IP Telephony strategy is another step towards the company's vision of the unified IP-based enterprise network.
Executives report the company spent $US2.5 billion on research and development, of which $1.5 billion, or 60 per cent, was on IP products as part of achieving this vision.
