After a 35-year career at IBM Australia, veteran managing director Robert Savage last week announced that he will retire from the computer giant this month.
Savage has spent the last 12 years in the lead role, the last nine of which saw him drive IBM's foray into China.
"Bob led the formation of IBM in China and laid the groundwork for our phenomenal growth across the Great China Group. "Over the last three years, he has led A/NZ to record growth. He secured the next evolution of our joint venture with the inclusion of Telstra, a partner to form IBM Global Services Australia.
"His leadership in e-business has helped to improve the awareness of Australia and New Zealand customers of the benefits of a networked world," said John Joyce, general manager IBM Asia Pacific.
Replacing Savage is experienced understudy David Thodey - former general manager marketing communications and sales operations for IBM Australia and New Zealand.
Thodey's 21-plus years at IBM also includes a background in marketing, distribution and the channel.
