Despite what could be described as an underwhelming first year in 1998, distribution and value-add reselling conglomerate Avnet/Hall-Mark is gearing up for some spectacular revenue growth in 1999.
Central to the organisation's expansion strategy is the establishment of a new warehouse that will be stocked with $4 million of networking inventory from struggling vendor Cabletron. And in a further boost to the organisation's fortunes, Dick Monaghan, Avnet CMG (Computer Marketing Group) vice president of Asia-Pacific logistics, has been appointed to oversee the setting up of the infrastructure for the US giant's local operation.
While Monaghan's first assignment is to establish the 1300sqm warehouse at the site of sister company Avnet Electronics at Sydney's North Ryde, he clearly has the credentials to help ramp up the organisation's local distribution business.
Monaghan has just come from an 18-month tour setting up infrastructure for Avnet/Hall-Mark in Europe.
"To expand our Australian presence, we're looking to sign other vendors on, and we already have a letter of understanding executed with another company," Monaghan told ARN last week.
Monaghan expects to reveal the new vendor partner in the next two months.
