Utility software vendor Quarterdeck has appointed games specialist GT Interactive (GTI) as a distributor in a move to increase its exposure to the retail market. GTI distributes titles such as Duke Nukem, Abe's Oddysee, Doom and Total Annihilation.

The new distribution arrangement is in addition to existing distributors, Marketing Results, Edge and Tech Pacific. According to Quarterdeck Australia managing director Earl White: "We are really excited by the fresh opportunities GT Interactive presents. GT Interactive will bring fantastic flair and creativity in sales, marketing and merchandising, and these are important issues when dealing with the retail sector."

The Quarterdeck-GT Interactive distribution agreement is effective immediately and covers all of the Quarterdeck range including RealHelp, CleanSweep, ViruSweep, Partition-IT and DiskClone. GT Interactive's national sales manager, Martin Good, said, "This is a new and exciting direction for GT Interactive, and we are delighted to be associated with Quarterdeck and its stable of award-winning products."

It is expected that, of the major retailers currently supplied by GT Interactive, Harvey Norman, Myer - Grace Brothers and K-Mart could soon be displaying the Quarterdeck products. Although originally targetted at business users Good said: "Quarterdeck's Helpware products are simply a must-have proposition for all computer users, and sit well with our overall distribution strategy for the next few years."

It will be GTI's first forray into distribution of non game software.
