<p>Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leading provider of enterprise network storage solutions, has announced SnapManager 3.0 for Microsoft Exchange, which supports both Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange 2000. SnapManager 3.0 for Microsoft Exchange is a comprehensive data management solution for hosting and automating backup and restoration of Microsoft Exchange-based storage groups.</p>
<p>SnapManager 3.0 significantly improves the availability, reliability and performance of Exchange environments by integrating NetApp(r) enterprise storage systems and data management software with Exchange Server 2003 or Exchange 2000 running on Windows( Server 2003 or Windows 2000. When using with Exchange 2003 and Windows 2003, SnapManager simplifies network storage deployments using Fibre Channel SAN or iSCSI over Ethernet. It enables near-instantaneous hot backups and near-online restores to deliver high levels of reliability, availability, and scalability at a low total cost of ownership (TCO).</p>

SnapManager 3.0 for Microsoft Exchange is integrated with Microsoft's support for Multipath I/O (MPIO) for resiliency in Fibre Channel SAN environments when deployed with NetApp(r) clustered storage. SnapManager 3.0 is also integrated with Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) when deployed with Exchange Server 2003 on the Windows Server 2003 operating system. Microsoft VSS provides a standard way to integrate Exchange 2003 backup and recovery functionality with NetApp data management software, including Snapshot(tm) and SnapRestore(r). Rapid Snapshot technology-based online backups and rapid restores reduce backup times to seconds and reduce restore times from hours or days to just minutes, greatly increasing the amount of time business-critical services are available to users.</p>
<p>Microsoft has lowered the TCO of Exchange by providing new deployment tools, expanded management tools and full use of new Windows 2003 features, including VSS. NetApp enhances this TCO proposition by integrating its enterprise network storage solutions into Exchange. SnapManager facilitates simple, automated migration from direct-attached storage to networked storage. Networked storage reduces TCO by providing better investment protection and asset utilisation, while reducing storage management overhead and improving the efficiency of Exchange administrators. Additionally, administrators can consolidate storage attached to multiple Exchange-based servers for additional cost savings and ease of management. SnapManager 3.0 enables on-the-fly storage expansion while Exchange continues to run, reducing planned downtime and boosting availability.</p>
<p>Also available, Single Mailbox Recovery (SMBR) for Exchange software is a powerful tool for rapid recovery of single mailboxes, individual folders, or single messages from a SnapManager backup. SMBR saves time and money by completely eliminating the need for cumbersome and disk-intensive brick-level backups or investments in dedicated recovery server architectures.</p>
