Alpha-based NT servers - made in Oz

Digital has announced that its Alpha-based NT Digital servers are now being produced at its Lane Cove (NSW) Integration Centre. The NT servers for the Australian and New Zealand market were previously imported from Singapore.

The Lane Cove facility is also expected to be producing Alpha-based workstations. It was chosen because of its record for quick delivery for build-to-order PCs and servers. According to Digital Australia server product manager, Gary Ogden, Lane Cove achieves delivery times of eight working days on customer server orders. This compares to four weeks on some enterprise class systems from Singapore.

The production of Alpha-based systems means the facility's output is expected to increase by 30 per cent by the end of 1998.

Ogden said: "the local integration of Alpha- based Digital servers and workstations ensures we can meet the demand of positioning the Alpha processor as a volume alternative in the NT enterprise computing environment."
