Most starter network kits target the hot small office/home office (SOHO) market. But Artisoft stresses that the i.Share KoJack home network phone line network starter kit is aimed specifically at home users who want to connect a pair of PCs and share peripherals and concurrent Internet access using a single phone line and one Internet service provider account.
KoJack, which is available now, includes everything needed to connect two PCs.
The heart of KoJack is a pair of plug-and-play PCI network cards that you install in your PCs and connect to the nearest handy phone jack. Compatible with the emerging Phone Line Networked Alliance specifications, the cards communicate with one another using a frequency much higher than those used for standard telephone signals, so you can use both the KoJack network and your telephone - or the Internet - at the same time. Network speed, however, is a relatively leisurely 1Mbps, 10 per cent of the speed of a standard wired Ethernet network.
