Attachmate to attack desktop Y2K compliance

Software developer Attachmate has joined the race to beat the millennium bug at the desktop level offering a new Independent Verification and Validation (IVV) Program.

The program, announced last week, involves Attachmate consultants using the vendor's technology and expertise to perform audits of desktop environments.

"Desktop PCs have taken a back seat to enterprise systems in much of the Y2K compliance work done so far," said Ian Jolley, manager, Australia/New Zealand Attachmate Consulting Services Division. "Our consultants can help by using fast and efficient tools to rigorously check and report on Y2K compliance for all PCs across a customer's organisation."

The IVV program consists of two steps - discovery and reporting - providing analysis of hardware, operating systems and software against Y2K compliance statements from respective vendors.

Once the risks have been identified, Attachmate consultants can advise and implement a fix, claim company officials.
