IDC Reveals End User Purchase Channels and Brand Preferences for Enterprise Printers

NORTH SYDNEY, 15th September, 2004 - IDC has recently completed the fourth study in the Buying Behaviour and Trends (BB&T) report series covering the local enterprise (250+ employees) market titled, "Business Selection Criteria for Business Printing Environments." This study focuses on both single-function inkjet and laser printer vendor preference, market trends, and forecast analysis affecting the enterprise market in Australia.

Key findings from this study reveal that the preferred avenue for purchasing single-function printers is through Value Added Resellers (VARs), and based on latest BB&T survey results there are two vendors who should see increased preference over the coming year.

Su-Lin Ng, IDC Market Analyst noted that, "Survey respondent feedback indicates that HP and Kyocera fare well for vendor preference in relation to expenditure on single-function printers over the coming twelve months. The key point for the vendors is how to take advantage of this position from a vertical industry perspective."

"It is also important for other printer vendors to focus on the areas within the enterprise market that have indicated preference for their brand over this forecast period," Ms. Ng added.

IDC found that when survey respondents were asked about their preferred source of acquisition for single-function printers, over 66% of the respondents indicated that they preferred purchasing their devices from VARs than any other channel partner.

"For local enterprise customers, the ease of use offered by VARs positions them as the preferred source of acquisition for single-function inkjet and laser printers. These organisations offer the additional service, convenience and time-savings that make the purchase easier for the customer," said Michael Sager, IDC Market Analyst.
